Light pipes – homogenizing rods are special prismatic-type elements used to homogenize non-collimated, polychromatic light. Homogenizing rods use the phenomenon of total internal reflection to guide and homogenize the light along its volume.
Solaris Optics manufactures custom light pipes in its premises in Poland.
Analogous to optical fibers homogenizing rods can be made of various materials, hence designed for different angles of incidence. A typical cross section shape of a light pipe is hexagonal, which allows to maximize the light throughput (minimize light losses). Nevertheless Solaris Optics can manufacture also other shapes, as well as provide mounts, upon a regular request.
